Men across the country are struggling.
There’s this idea that men must behave a certain way: show no emotion, work through the pain, provide by any means necessary. These are the kind of ideals that have been causing harm for generations. In order to break this pattern, young men must learn how to communicate their feelings, express their emotions, seek guidance, and find different paths towards their happiness to change the narrative of masculinity.
This is the mission of Carlos J. Malave’s signature program, Our Father’s Sons.
Carlos is the son of a father that struggled with traditional masculinity and the pressures of society. His father did his best but could never defeat his demeans; tragically in 2019 Carlos’ father took his own life. From that moment, this became Carlos’ WHY. Through his program, Our Father’s Sons, Carlos teaches the audience how to confront trauma, break generational patterns and change the narrative of masculinity through powerful engagements. The mission for Carlos is to help our young men find the power in their vulnerability and use it to their advantage towards a successful life.

Program 2- Restorative Power: Confronting Conflict, Learning How to Have the Difficult Conversations, and Understanding How to Live Restoratively

Restorative Power is the ability to live in a way that allows us to identify the root of all causes in our lives. For years, restorative practices, which is a practice that focuses on improving and repairing relationships, were used as a replacement to discipline within school systems. Today, Carlos vows to change the narrative.
This engaging program allows audience members to develop a mindset and strategies to not only identify conflict, but also reduce it through meaningful, purposeful dialogue. It is intended to help individuals, and groups, learn to better communicate and establish higher levels of dignity and mutual respect.
This is bigger than a job for Carlos. His father was a product of the school-to-prison pipeline. It’s now his goal to dismantle and replace that system with a new one.

Program 3- Set Your Boundaries:Relationship Building through Direct Communication

Do people honor your feelings while acknowledging and accepting your emotions?
Understanding how to set personal limits is essential for building and maintaining healthy relationships. We all want to have good personal boundaries in our friendships and relationships but how do we go about creating and maintaining them?
As a relationship builder, Carlos has developed strategies on how to identify personal limits and execute defining and communicating them to friends and loved ones. The most important ingredient to healthy boundaries is the ability to say “NO”, so let’s put ourselves first.
